Indonesia Invests in Children’s Health: Free Nutritious Meals Program Launched
Central Bangka, Bangka Belitung Islands – The Indonesian government is taking a proactive approach to child health and development with the launch of a nationwide Free Nutritious Meals program. This initiative aims to combat stunting and improve the quality of human resources by ensuring children have access to nutritious food from a young age.
Declaring Children as a National Priority
Deputy Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Ahmad Riza Patria, emphasized the importance of this program during a visit to a school in Central Bangka district. “Our children are valuable assets; the future of Indonesia is in their hands. Thus, their nutrition must be maintained from an early age,” he stated. The Free Nutritious Meals program is seen as a crucial step towards achieving national priorities in reducing stunting rates and fostering a healthier future generation.
Building Awareness and Sustainable Support
Patria praised the Central Bangka district government for spearheading the initiative, highlighting its impact beyond merely providing meals. “It does not only provide nutritious meals but also builds awareness on the importance of balanced nutrition for children’s growth and development,” he added. The central government is committed to providing both financial and technical support to ensure the program’s long-term success and potential expansion to all schools.
Collaboration Between Government Levels
The Deputy District Head of Central Bangka, Era Susanto, underscored the program’s role in improving the quality of life for children, stating, “We hope that the program does not only improve children’s health but also their learning achievements at school.” This commitment extends to a larger-scale implementation for elementary school students in 2025, aligning with the priorities of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for their 2024-2029 term.
Supporting a National Nutrition Push
In a concerted effort to support the program’s implementation, the government established the National Nutrition Agency in August of this year. This underscores the dedication to tackling malnutrition and ensuring the well-being of Indonesia’s children.
