German Consumer Authority Takes Legal Action over Shrinking Chocolate Bars

German consumer authorities are taking legal action against Mondelez after discovering that chocolate plates have been reduced in weight by ten grams. Several media outlets, including spiegel, report on the case.

Mondelez owns the Norwegian chocolate brand Freia, and is also known internationally for Milka chocolate.

The legal action comes as a response to what consumer groups perceive as deceptive packaging – a practice sometimes referred to as “shrinkflation,” where product size is reduced while the price remains the same.
