Friday Squid Blogging Continues a Nearly Two-Decade Streak
For nearly two decades, security expert Bruce Schneier has maintained a unique tradition: posting about squid every Friday. This week marks nineteen years of “Friday Squid Blogging,” a practice that began with his first post on this topic and has continued with only a few exceptions.
Schneier’s blog often uses the squid post as an open thread for discussing current security news, allowing readers to share insights and analysis beyond the marine biology theme. The tradition has garnered a dedicated following, with some estimating over 1,004 posts dedicated to the cephalopod since its inception as noted by Simon Willison.
Recent posts have included observations on Humboldt squid as documented by Cyber Crime Investigations and a simple appreciation for a squid cartoon posted on February 20, 2026.
The blog also maintains a moderation policy for comments and discussions.
