It’s been a great weekend in Florida. Warm days, cool breezes, the best parts of fall.
But starting tonight, winter arrives a little early this year. Christmas-time cold will sweep down from Canada bringing perhaps record-breaking temperatures and yes, the chill will reach the Sunshine State. Temperatures forecasts for Monday night and Tuesday keep dropping day by day.
“A cold outbreak will plunge into the U.S. this weekend and bring the coldest air of the season to the Midwest and Northeast, a widespread freeze into the Deep South with some record lows possible as far South as Florida,” said Weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Erdman in an online forecast.
The Midwest, South and East United States will see the worst of it, but temperatures will start plunging in North and Central florida Sunday night and parts of North Florida are expected to see the season’s first freeze by Monday night.Tallahassee’s first freeze generally isn’t until around Nov. 21, and AccuWeather reported that Jacksonville, expected to approach freezing Monday and tuesday night, will see temps 10 to 20 degrees below normal.
## Tallahassee, Florida, could see first killing frost or freeze

The first killing frost and/or freeze of the season is expected for all but beachfront communities on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, according to the National Weather Service Tallahassee.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect from this afternoon through early Tuesday morning across all northeast Gulf waters. Occasional gusts to near gale force are possible in waters west of Apalachicola. Elevated fire weather concerns are expected Monday afternoon with gusty winds, low relative humidity, and ongoing drought conditions.

Cold Snap Threatens Florida Wildlife: Falling iguanas and Potential Python Deaths
South Florida is bracing for a important cold snap, with temperatures expected to plummet nearly 20 degrees within 24 hours in some areas, like Fort Myers. The coldest period is forecast for Tuesday morning, with lows reaching the upper 30s to low 40s around the Lake region and mid-upper 40s elsewhere. Coastal areas may remain closer to 50 degrees. Tuesday afternoon highs are predicted to be in the low-mid 60s around the Lake region and upper 60s elsewhere.
This dramatic temperature drop poses a threat to cold-blooded creatures like iguanas and pythons. Iguanas become immobile in temperatures below 50 degrees and may even fall from trees – a phenomenon already known to occur in South Florida. Prolonged exposure to these cold temperatures can be fatal for both iguanas and invasive Burmese pythons.
