The inaugural Challenger Banque Nationale de Québec is set to host a high-caliber field of professional tennis players from August 17 to 23, 2024, at the Université Laval tennis center. Gabriel Diallo, currently ranked 88th in the ATP standings, headlines the event, which features multiple top-100 international players competing on the outdoor courts.
A Growing Field of Top-100 Talent
The tournament has attracted significant international interest, with several players ranked within the top 100 of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) confirming their attendance. According to tournament organizers, the field includes French competitors Terrence Atmane (52nd), Valentin Royer (75th), Luca Van Assche (80th), Benjamin Bonzi (93rd), and Quentin Halys (95th).

Organizers expect the entry list to continue evolving as players finalize their schedules in the coming weeks.
Venue and Spectator Experience
The competition will take place at the new Université Laval tennis center, which officially opened its doors in May 2024. To accommodate the expected turnout, the committee is installing temporary bleachers around the courts to host approximately 1,300 spectators per session.
As of early July, tournament officials reported that 50% of the available tickets had already been sold. Demand for the final day of play, scheduled for August 23, is particularly high, with only a limited number of seats remaining. To encourage public engagement, the organization has confirmed that all training sessions and qualifying rounds will be free for the public to attend.
Expectations for Future Growth
While the tournament has secured a strong initial lineup, organizers have clarified that Félix Auger-Aliassime is not expected to compete. Despite this, the event represents a significant milestone, marking the return of professional men’s tennis to Quebec City after a nearly 50-year hiatus.
Jean-Sébastien Lavoie, the tournament’s deputy director and head of the tennis center, emphasized that the long-term goal is to establish the event as a premier stop on the international Challenger circuit. The tournament committee is positioning the city’s facilities and regional appeal as key assets to attract elite talent for future iterations of the competition.
