Bozeman Health Opens Southwest Montana’s First Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
Bozeman Health reported that its Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit is now providing acute psychiatric care to medically stable adults, marking the first facility of its kind in Southwest Montana designed to let patients remain close to home and community support during treatment.
The unit operates with 14 patient beds across eight rooms—six double rooms and two single rooms—inside Deaconess Regional Medical Center at 915 Highland Blvd. in Bozeman, according to RehabCost.
Voluntary Care at Deaconess Regional Medical Center
The program focuses on voluntary admissions for community members, Bozeman Health reported. Patients complete an Application for Voluntary Admission signed by the patient, the sending facility provider or crisis intervention specialist, with copies distributed to the patient, the sending facility, and Bozeman Health’s inpatient staff.
RehabCost describes the unit as serving adults experiencing acute psychiatric crises who are medically stable and can return to a community setting after stabilization.
What the 30-Person Team Provides
Bozeman Health reported that more than 30 multidisciplinary professionals staff the unit, including psychiatrist Landon L. Van Dell, MD, inpatient therapists, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, and peer support specialists. RehabCost lists clinical services including psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual and group counseling, occupational therapy, nursing support, guidance on accessing resources, and peer support.
The physical space includes dedicated areas for individual and group therapy, therapeutic activities, patient and family exam rooms, consultation areas, and a conference room for treatment team planning, Bozeman Health reported.
Patients Receive Family Support Guidelines
Bozeman Health reported that the unit encourages family involvement as part of recovery, with visits coordinated to support patient safety and therapeutic wellbeing. The health system provides a downloadable list of permissible personal items and visitation guidelines for families.
