Gadget Use Linked to Rising Eye Disorders in Gorontalo Gorontalo Province in Indonesia has seen a rise in eye disorder complaints linked to prolonged gadget use, according to the eye clinic at Dr Hasri Ainun Habibie Regional General Hospital. Eye specialist Dr. Yusnidah Z Ahmad Sp.M. Reported that the increase in cases coincides with growing public use of digital devices such as cell phones, computers, and laptops. Common complaints include tired eyes, dry eyes, watery eyes, and worsening myopia and nearsightedness, particularly among individuals who use screens intensively without adequate breaks. Dr. Ahmad explained that continuously focusing on screens at close range can strain the eyes and potentially deteriorate vision if not balanced with sufficient rest. She emphasized that this issue affects various age groups, especially those who rely heavily on digital devices for work, study, or leisure. To mitigate risks, the public is advised to manage screen time and grab regular breaks to rest their eyes. Individuals experiencing eye discomfort are encouraged to seek timely check-ups at health facilities to prevent more serious complications. Even as cataracts remain the most prevalent eye disease in the region, gadget-related eye strain is becoming an increasingly common concern in clinical settings.
