Gayle King Signs Latest Deal to Remain with CBS Mornings
Fans can continue to rely on Gayle King for their morning news, as the long-running anchor of CBS Mornings has confirmed she will remain with the talk show despite her contract expiring in May. The news follows months of speculation regarding her future with the network amid broader restructuring.
“Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated,” King said in a statement to Variety on March 4, referencing the famous quote attributed to Mark Twain. “CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission. I’m excited about continuing at CBS Mornings. As always, I’m open to new adventures here and ready to go.”
She concluded, “It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in.”
Contract Renewal Amidst Network Changes
The announcement comes after CBS News addressed earlier reports suggesting King might be stepping away from the program – which she co-hosts with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson – and taking on a different role within the company. In October 2025, a CBS News spokesperson stated to USA Today, “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we appear forward to engaging with her about the future.”
King’s renewal occurs as CBS News undergoes significant changes under the leadership of Bari Weiss, who became editor-in-chief in October 2025. These changes included widespread layoffs impacting approximately 10% of Paramount’s workforce, as reported by USA Today. Other recent shifts at the network include the departure of Norah O’Donnell from CBS Evening News and John Dickerson’s announcement to leave CBS by the end of 2026.
Despite the ongoing restructuring, Weiss expressed her enthusiasm for King’s continued presence at CBS News. “There is only one Gayle King. We’re so proud that she’ll continue to call CBS home. We’re thrilled to have her on in the morning—and equally excited to work with her on new, enterprising projects that bring her talents to new audiences,” Weiss said, according to TV Insider.
