Netflix to Stream Yankees-Giants MLB Opening Day 2026, Ushering in New Era for Baseball Broadcasts
The 2026 Major League Baseball season will kick off with a historic broadcast as the New York Yankees face the San Francisco Giants on Netflix, marking the streaming giant’s first exclusive live sports offering. The game, scheduled for March 25, 2026, at Oracle Park in San Francisco, will be streamed live at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT.
A Landmark Deal for MLB and Netflix
This primetime matchup is the centerpiece of a new three-year agreement between Major League Baseball, and Netflix. The deal came about after ESPN opted out of a previous agreement, prompting MLB to seek new broadcast partners. Netflix will similarly broadcast the All-Star Game’s Home Run Derby and select regular-season games, including the “Field of Dreams” game, the “MLB at Rickwood Field” game, and the “MLB Speedway” game, potentially sharing these with NBC/Peacock.
Broadcast Team and Enhanced Fan Experience
Netflix has assembled a broadcast team for the game, featuring Elle Duncan as the host, who recently joined Netflix from ESPN. Matt Vasgersian will handle play-by-play commentary, alongside analysts Hunter Pence, a former Giants player, and CC Sabathia, a Yankees Hall of Famer. Lauren Shehadi will serve as the sideline reporter. Anthony Rizzo, a former player for both the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees, will contribute to the pre- and post-game coverage, and comedian Bert Kreischer will also be involved. Netflix is reportedly considering Barry Bonds to provide commentary from a Giants perspective.
To enhance the fan experience, Netflix is placing 73 branded red kayaks in McCovey Cove, behind Oracle Park’s right field wall, commemorating Barry Bonds’s 73 home runs in 2001. Fans will be able to use the kayaks to paddle around the cove during the game.
Looking Ahead
The Yankees-Giants game on Netflix signifies a significant shift in how baseball is broadcast, bringing the sport to a wider audience through a leading streaming platform. This marks the beginning of a three-year partnership that will also include the broadcast of the Home Run Derby and other special event games.
