Court Upholds “Bad Guilt” Ruling in Gimcheon Officetel Murder Case – Victims’ Family Court

(Daegu = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sun-hyung – Yang Jeong-ryul,the defendant in the Gimcheon Officetel Murder case,who fatally stabbed a man during a robbery and used the victim’s fingerprint,has had his sentence upheld on appeal.

The first part of the Daegu High Court (Deputy Judge Chung Sung-wook) rejected both Yang Jeong-ryul’s (32) appeal and the prosecutor’s appeal, maintaining the original sentence of life imprisonment.The court also ordered 20 years of electronic monitoring.

the court stated, “The defendant, driven by economic hardship, planned to rob money from an unknown individual and deliberately stabbed the victim multiple times with a pre-prepared weapon.”

The Tribunal added, “The survivors are experiencing immense pain and shock, and considering the petition submitted by the victims’ families…”
