Google to Phase Out Assistant, Replacing it with Gemini
Google is phasing out its Assistant. Although users can currently toggle between Google Assistant adn gemini, this option will disappear in the upcoming version of Gemini. The choice between assistants will soon be removed from Google Assistant settings, effectively ending the feature that has been integrated into Android as 2016. Gemini will become the primary assistant on Android phones and tablets.
Currently, Gemini allows users to switch back to Google Assistant, and vice versa. Future versions of both platforms will eliminate this functionality, marking the end of Google Assistant’s nine-year run.
Google Assistant has been a core component of Android since 2016. It primarily answered spoken questions and commands, and also facilitated internet searches. Other functions included setting alarms, controlling smart home devices, and providing audio entertainment like stories and games. These capabilities highlight how technologically outdated Google Assistant has become.
