google’s AI Coding Agent Jules Now Generally Available

google LLC today announced the general availability of its artificial intelligence coding agent, Jules, following a successful beta testing phase.
The asynchronous agent is designed to assist users in writing, testing, and improving software code. Initially revealed as a google Labs project in December 2024,Jules launched in beta in May after being showcased at Google I/O 2025.
Now, after three months of testing with developers and AI enthusiasts, Jules is available to paying customers. While targeted at developers, Google believes it can also benefit those exploring website design, app building, or automation, particularly enterprise workers without formal coding skills.
Jules is powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google’s most advanced large language model, optimized for reasoning and advanced planning. Its ability to handle multiple tasks in parallel makes it suitable for multistep workflows.
Updates include a streamlined user interface and new features like multimodal support for displaying visual outputs from web applications. Jules can now reuse past setups,visualize test results,and integrate with GitHub Issues for a smoother development process.
Beta testers submitted hundreds of thousands of tasks,resulting in over 140,000 publicly shared code improvements.
According to Google Labs Director of Product Kathy Korevec, Jules operates asynchronously in a virtual machine, differentiating it from synchronous AI coding agents like Cursor, Lovable, and Windsurf, which require constant user involvement.
“Jules operates like an extra set of hands.You can basically kick off tasks to it, and then you could close your computer and walk away from it if you want and then come back hours later,” Korevec explained. “Jules would have those tasks done for you, versus if you where doing that with a local agent or using a synchronous agent, you would be bound to that session.”
Google’s agentic AI push
Jules is not Google’s only AI coding tool. the Gemini app also possesses programming skills, and the company recently launched Opal, a vibe-coding app.However, unlike those apps, Google plans to utilize Jules internally for its own projects.Korevec stated the company has already tested Jules on internal coding tasks and is now making a “big push” to integrate it into “a lot more projects.”
