Czechia Enhances Emergency Services Access with Updated Záchranka App

Czechia has significantly improved access to emergency services with updates to the Záchranka app, introducing a universal SOS button and an SMS chat feature. These enhancements aim to make contacting help faster, clearer, and more accessible for all citizens and visitors, particularly those who are unable to speak or face language barriers.

Universal SOS Button for Faster Emergency Contact

The updated Záchranka app now features a universal SOS button, replacing the previous version that only connected users to the medical emergency line (155). Users can now select the type of assistance needed. Choosing medical help connects directly to 155, while selecting other emergencies automatically routes the call to the universal emergency number 112. Source, Source

SMS Chat Feature for Enhanced Communication

A new SMS chat feature has been added to the Záchranka app, allowing users to communicate with emergency operators via text message. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who cannot speak due to injury, disability, or unsafe situations, ensuring essential information – including location and the nature of the emergency – can be quickly conveyed. Improved Routing and Location Sharing

Officials emphasize that the improved routing system and faster location sharing capabilities will enable emergency services to respond more efficiently, especially in critical situations. Vladimír Vlček, General Director of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic, highlighted the app’s direct calling feature as a major step towards faster and more effective emergency assistance.
