Google’s Fast Share Now Works with iPhones

Google just added interoperability between Android’s Quick Share and Apple’s AirDrop. Now, you can share files between Pixel devices and iPhones. It’s a big step for cross-platform sharing.

Right now, only Pixel 8-series phones support this new feature. But don’t worry, more Android models are coming soon. Google hasn’t given a specific timeline, though.

Quick Share (previously known as Nearby Share) is Android’s built-in way to wirelessly share files. You can send photos, documents, and more over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct. It’s super convenient for Android users.

AirDrop is Apple’s system for sharing files between iPhones,iPads,and macs. It’s been a closed ecosystem until now. You couldn’t easily share with Android users.

Both systems are different. They use unique technical approaches, discovery protocols, and security measures. This made direct interaction impossible. It’s why sharing between Apple and Google devices was so difficult.

Previously, you were locked into sharing with people who had the same type of device. That’s now changing. Google announced they’ve broken down that barrier.

“As part of our efforts to continue to make cross-platform communication more seamless for users, we’ve made Quick Share interoperable with Apple’s AirDrop,” Google stated. They want to make things easier for everyone.It’s a welcome change for users who aren’t tied to a single platform.
