The amounts of aid paid to companies for hiring an apprentice will be reduced for BTS and engineering diplomas but will remain unchanged for apprentices with disabilities, according to the Ministry of Labor.

Aid for hiring an apprentice, previously 6,000 euros for companies, was lowered last year to 5,000 for SMEs with fewer than 250 employees and to 2,000 euros for larger companies.

The bonus for companies with fewer than 250 employees will this time fall to a maximum of 4,500 euros for apprentices preparing for a BTS or a DUT (Bac + 2 level diplomas) and to 2,000 euros for engineering diplomas, masters and licenses, according to a draft decree of which Agence France-Presse (AFP) has obtained a copy. Companies with 250 employees or more will receive 750 euros for these advanced study diplomas and 1,500 euros for Bac + 2 level diplomas. The amount of aid will be maintained at 6,000 euros for the hiring of apprentices with disabilities.

This exceptional aid is intended for employers for the first year of execution of apprenticeship contracts which start before January 1, 2027. The amount of expected savings is of the order of 200 million euros for 2026 and 700 million by next year, the ministry said. The decree will come into force the day after its publication and applies to apprenticeship contracts concluded from this date, according to the Ministry of Labor.

Taking advantage of public aid, the number of apprentices in France increased from 430,000 in 2017 to more than a million in 2023, while apprenticeships were massively opened up to higher education students and the service sector.
