Packers Start Season Strong with Win Over Commanders
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Jordan Love and the green Bay Packers are making a statement early in the NFL season.
Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns as the Packers defeated the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night. This follows their 27-13 win against the Detroit Lions, giving Green Bay two victories over teams that made the playoffs last season.
“It feels good,” Love said. “We couldn’t have started the season any better. We just need to keep building on this, but it feels great right now.”
Tight end Tucker Kraft had a career night, catching six passes for 124 yards. He and Love connected for an 8-yard touchdown with 8:57 remaining, stopping a Commanders comeback attempt.
“Hopefully, I can keep having games like that,” Kraft said. “This is the first time I’ve gone over 100 yards, even in college.”
Love completed 19 of 31 passes, leading an offense that was missing injured linemen Zach Tom and Aaron Banks. He also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs in the first quarter.
Green Bay’s defense also played a key role, consistently pressuring Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Washington gained only 11 yards in the first quarter and didn’t score a touchdown until late in the game.
“We played consistently,” said Packers defensive end Micah Parsons, who recorded half a sack and three hurries. “We gave up some things we didn’t want to, and more points than we wanted to, but we made them earn everything. That’s meaningful. No big plays, we made them work for every yard, and that’s a good sign.”
The Commanders (1-1) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Packers’ strong performance.
