GRIME II Set to Release on Steam March 31, 2026

Fans of the challenging action-adventure Metroidvania GRIME will soon be able to delve into its sequel, GRIME II. Publisher Kwalee and developer Clover Bite have announced that GRIME II will launch on PC via Steam on March 31, 2026 . An updated demo is currently available as part of Steam Next Fest, offering players a taste of the recent content.

What to Expect in GRIME II

GRIME II casts players as a “Formless”—an art mimic capable of absorbing creatures and summoning molds in their shape. The game takes place in a new and mysterious land within the GRIME universe, promising a blend of danger and wonder . Players will utilize their surroundings and summoned molds to overcome enemies and explore a world rich with diverse cultures and characters.

Key features of GRIME II include:

  • Molds: Absorb defeated enemies to create molds used for special attacks, throwing enemies, firing projectiles, stunning opponents, and even transforming into summons.
  • Environmental Combat: Leverage the environment to damage enemies, but be wary of reciprocal attacks.
  • Parry and Grasp: Utilize hand-tendrils to parry attacks or grasp and absorb enemies, learning their forms.
  • A Lived-In World: Explore unique locations with distinct civilizations and characters.

Updated Demo Details

The updated demo, coinciding with Steam Next Fest, includes a preview of the next area in the game, introducing new enemy types . A significant rework of the traits system and visual improvements to the Temple area and bosses are too included. Importantly, save files from the previous demo version are not compatible with this update, but saves from the latest demo will carry over to the full game.

Genre and Tags

GRIME II is categorized as a Metroidvania, Souls-like, Action RPG, and RPG, with elements of exploration, PvE combat, and a lore-rich, surreal world . The game features 2.5D graphics, nonlinear gameplay, multiple endings, and is designed for singleplayer experiences with controller support.
