Eagles Soar Past Gulls in 6-3 Victory
The Colorado Eagles defeated the San Diego Gulls 6-3 Friday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego, overcoming a strong early effort from the Gulls. Despite the loss, San Diego demonstrated resilience against the second-place team in their division.
Carpenter Strikes Early for San Diego
Ryan Carpenter opened the scoring for the Gulls, capitalizing on a powerplay opportunity. Carpenter has now scored three powerplay goals in his last three games and leads all Gulls skaters with six powerplay goals this season. The initial goal came off a rebound in the low slot.
Caulfield Responds, But Eagles Take Control
Judd Caulfield briefly regained the lead for San Diego with a powerplay goal of his own, ending a 10-game goal drought and marking his 15th goal of the season. Although, the Eagles rallied, particularly in the third period, scoring four goals to secure the win.
Physical Play Marks Second Period
The second period saw increased physicality, with Drew Elliott receiving a five-minute major penalty for fighting in his first AHL appearance since October. Stian Solberg also received a two-minute roughing minor, maintaining his team lead in penalty minutes with 84 served this season. Nathan Gaucher also received a roughing call late in the period.
Pastujov Extends Point Streak
Sasha Pastujov scored the third and final goal for the Gulls and assisted on Carpenter’s opening goal. Pastujov has recorded 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points this season, with 11 multi-point games. Tristan Luneau added two assists, extending his point streak to six games with 2-7=9 points. Roland McKeown, Tyson Hinds, and Yegor Sidorov each contributed an assist.
