Gulmarg Terror Attack: Police Suspect 3-4 Militants Involved, Search Operation Continues

Three to four militants are suspected to have carried out the deadly attack on an Army convoy in the Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing four people, including two soldiers. The attack, which took place on Thursday, has prompted a massive search operation by security forces that entered its second day on Saturday.
“According to evidence gathered, 3-4 militants were involved in the attack,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Mohammad Zaid Malik told reporters.
Search Operation Intensifies as Militant Group Sought
The search operation, involving the police, Army, and paramilitary forces, has been expanded to include Baba Reshi, forest areas in Gulmarg, and the built-up area before it. Security forces are utilizing human and technical intelligence inputs, along with drones and helicopters, to track down the perpetrators.
“Security forces had been carrying out many input-based search operations on the militants in the Pattan-Kreeri area of the Baramulla district in the days ahead of the attack,” the SSP informed.
Details of the Deadly Attack
The attack, which occurred 6 km from the popular tourist destination Gulmarg, targeted an Army vehicle traveling to the Nagin post in the Affarwat range. Two soldiers and two Army porters tragically lost their lives, while another porter and soldier sustained injuries.
Senior officers of the police and Army are overseeing the operation in the area, described as being “completely dominated” by the Army. Recent reports suggested the infiltration of a terrorist group into the higher reaches of the Affarwat range during the earlier summer months.
