Authorities have identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah as a suspect in the deadly shooting against conservative activist Charlie Kirk, writes The Times, citing five law enforcement officers. Kirk, a prominent figure in the Trump movement and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was killed Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University. The incident caused national mourning and an increased inquiry into political violence in university campuses.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced on Fox News that the suspect in the murder of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk had been detained after a large-scale search operation.

Trump said, quoted by the BBC: “I think we arrested him with a great degree,” then adds “someone very close to him betrayed him. His father …may be wrong, but I say what I heard.”

Asked to explain, Trump said, “It was his father” who intervened.
