Héma-Québec Opens First Plasma Donation Centre on Quebec’s South Shore in Lévis
Lévis, Quebec – Héma-Québec officially opened its 13th donation centre, and the first dedicated plasma donation centre on the South Shore of Quebec, on March 10, 2026. Located at 95, route du Président-Kennedy in Lévis, the new facility aims to bolster Quebec’s plasma self-sufficiency strategy and provide easier access for donors in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
Addressing the Necessitate for Plasma
The centre will focus exclusively on plasma donations, a critical component in the production of immunoglobulins. These proteins are essential for manufacturing medications used to treat various autoimmune diseases and syndromes that affect thousands of Quebecers, according to Héma-Québec in a press release.
Strategic Location and Accessibility
The location in Lévis was strategically chosen to serve residents of Lévis, Bellechasse, Les Etchemins, and surrounding areas who previously had to travel to Quebec City to donate plasma. The centre is easily accessible from Autoroute 20 (exit 325). With a population exceeding 160,000 and continued growth, Lévis provides a strong base for community engagement as stated by the Quebec government.
Increased Donation Capacity
The new facility is equipped with 10 donation chairs and is expected to collect approximately 15,000 plasma donations annually according to La Voix du Sud. In 2025, 4,600 people in the region donated blood, demonstrating existing community support for Héma-Québec’s mission .
Progress Towards Self-Sufficiency
“The opening of the Lévis donation centre is a concrete step toward achieving our overall objective and bringing plasma donation closer to donors,” said Nathalie Fagnan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Héma-Québec . Héma-Québec is aiming for 42% plasma self-sufficiency by 2027 to meet the growing demand for these life-saving medications.
