Bulgaria’s Consumer Protection Commission Sanctions Energy Powder Distributor

The Commission for Consumer Protection (KZP) in Bulgaria has sanctioned a company distributing an energy powder product heavily promoted by singer Diona, due to misleading advertising and lack of essential consumer information. The action comes after a wave of public outcry regarding the product’s promotion on social media.

KZP Findings and Sanctions

The KZP will impose a fine of up to BGN 30,000 (approximately €15,300 or $16,500 as of March 13, 2026) on the company. The sanction stems from the absence of a physical address and a cancellation form on the merchant’s website, violating consumer rights. Fakti.bg reported on the KZP’s decision on August 28, 2024.

Concerns Over Advertising and Product Composition

The advertisement for the energy powder sparked controversy due to its presentation, which some consumers likened to the use of narcotics. Diona, the singer featured in the advertisement, had previously been arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine, further fueling public criticism. Fakti.bg

The KZP likewise sent a notification to the Ministry of Health a month prior to the sanction, raising concerns about the product’s ingredients. As of August 28, 2024, the health authorities had not yet responded. Fakti.bg
