Honor Unveils Revolutionary ‘Robot Phone’ with AI-Powered Gimbal Camera

BARCELONA, Spain – March 1, 2026 – Chinese tech brand Honor today unveiled what it calls the industry’s first “Robot Phone” at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, alongside the introduction of its new concept of Augmented Human Intelligence (AHI). The device features a unique three-axis gimbal camera system and aims to redefine the smartphone experience through embodied AI.

A New Species of Smartphone: The Robot Phone

Honor CEO Li Jian described the Robot Phone as a “new species of smartphone,” emphasizing its innovative approach to mobile imaging and user interaction. The core of this innovation lies in the industry-first three-axis gimbal camera system, designed to deliver unparalleled video stabilization and creative shooting options.

The Robot Phone combines embodied intelligent interaction with flagship-level imaging capabilities, offering what Honor terms an “embodied AI experience.” This translates to features like full-angle AI video calls, expressive body-language interaction, and rhythmic motion responsiveness. The device can even respond to users with “head shakes” and dance to music, adding a layer of personality to the user experience.

Cinematic Imaging and AI-Powered Features

Beyond its robotic camera arm, the phone boasts a 200-megapixel camera capable of capturing smooth videos and photos thanks to the integrated stabilization technology. A “Super Steady” mode further enhances video capture, while the “Spinshot” feature allows the camera to rotate 90 or 180 degrees for cinematic shots.

The robotic camera also enables more fluid video calls with AI-powered object tracking, ensuring the user remains in focus. This technology builds upon similar features found in other smartphones, such as Apple’s Center Stage, but with enhanced capabilities.

Engineering Innovation Behind the Robotics

Honor developed a custom micro motor to precisely control the robotic camera’s movements. The company leveraged techniques used in foldable phone manufacturing to ensure the camera’s sturdiness and integrate the four-degree-of-freedom gimbal system within the phone’s body. The robotic arm utilizes the same materials as the Honor Magic V6’s hinge, boasting a tensile strength of 2800 MPa.

Beyond the Robot Phone: New Product Launches

Alongside the Robot Phone, Honor also launched its flagship foldable smartphone, the Magic V6, featuring a remarkably slim folded thickness of 8.75 mm. The company also unveiled the Honor MagicPad 4 tablet and the Honor MagicBook 14 laptop at the event. Honor debuted its first humanoid robot, showcasing its broader ambitions in the field of robotics and AI.

Augmented Human Intelligence (AHI)

During the launch event, Honor formally proposed the concept of Augmented Human Intelligence (AHI). According to Li Jian, “The essence of artificial intelligence is people-centered. It should combine intelligence quotient (IQ) with emotional intelligence (EQ), enhancing humanity’s ability to adapt, evolve and enjoy the present in a rapidly changing world.” This philosophy underscores Honor’s vision for AI as a tool to augment human capabilities rather than replace them.

MWC 2026 will run from March 2 to 5 in Barcelona, Spain, hosting over 100 pavilions representing countries, regions, and technologies.
