Michel Houellebecq Returns to Music with Modern Album ‘Souvenez-Vous de l’Homme’

French author Michel Houellebecq, known for his dystopian novels and controversial views, is releasing a new musical album, Souvenez-Vous de l’Homme (Remember Man), on March 6, 2026, via the independent French label Modulor. The album is a collaboration with musician Frédéric Ló.

A Return to Musical Pursuits

While celebrated for his literary work, including winning the Goncourt Prize for The Map and the Territory in 2010, Houellebecq has a history of artistic endeavors beyond writing. He has participated in artistic performances with the Masbedo collective, acted in films like The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq, and previously released an album, Présence humaine, in 2020.

Collaboration with Frédéric Ló

The collaboration between Houellebecq and Ló began in 2019, sparked by Houellebecq’s appreciation for Ló’s work on a Daniel Darc tribute album. Ló, recognized for his skills as a lyricist, composer, arranger, and producer, has collaborated with artists such as Bill Pritchard, Peter Doherty, and Daniel Darc. Their connection led to the creation of Souvenez-Vous de l’Homme.

Musical Style and Influences

The new album is described as “raw, stripped-down music draped in electronica, adorned with piano and antediluvian drum machines.” It features twelve tracks with Houellebecq reciting texts composed by him, set to music by Ló. The album’s sound is said to evoke influences such as Serge Gainsbourg’s L’Homme à la Tête de Chou, The Stranglers’ La Folie, and the work of Procol Harum and Burt Bacharach.

Tour Plans

Following the album’s release, Houellebecq has announced a French tour, including ten consecutive nights at La Scala in Paris starting in May 2026. This marks a return to the stage for the author after a quarter of a century.

About the Album

Souvenez-Vous de l’Homme (Remember Man) is a hypnotic and melancholic album, described as uncompromising and captivating, and unlike any other. The album questions and reflects on humanity’s past and future.
