Suspect in Sexual Assault Case Killed in Standoff with Houston Police
HOUSTON, Texas – A 36-year-old man accused of sexual assault was fatally shot by a Houston Police Department SWAT officer on Monday, March 9, 2026, after a more than four-hour standoff in southeast Houston. The suspect, who police have not yet publicly identified by name, opened fire on officers before being shot and killed.
Details of the Standoff
The incident began around 10:25 a.m. In the 6000 block of Bellfort Street, when officers attempted to serve a warrant related to a sexual assault investigation. The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 7 and the Texas Attorney General’s Office were also involved in the attempt to serve the warrant according to KPRC2.
After the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, negotiators from the Texas Attorney General’s Office attempted communication for approximately an hour and a half, but were unsuccessful. An Instagram profile reportedly posted videos from inside the home during the standoff, showing weapons and police presence as reported by Click2Houston.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., the suspect exited the residence armed with a high-powered rifle and fired at the SWAT officers. A 16-year veteran of the Houston Police Department returned fire, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department personnel according to Yahoo News.
Investigation Underway
The Houston Police Department is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting. No officers were injured during the incident as reported by Houston Public Media. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

Earlier on Monday, Precinct 7 officials indicated the warrant was connected to a sexual assault investigation, though HPD Assistant Chief James Skelton stated that detail would be confirmed later in the investigation according to KPRC2.
