Rockets Fall to Mavericks Despite Recent Success
The Houston Rockets arrived in Dallas having won their last four games.Though, concerns lingered. Criticism has been mounting regarding their sluggish and indecisive offensive approach. Head coach Ime Udoka emphasized the poor defense displayed by his team, a strength that frequently rescued them last season but appears diminished this year. Despite holding a fourth-place record in the West with 21 wins in 31 games – just one game behind the Nuggets, a team they are expected to surpass – few currently consider them among the top title contenders. This is despite their roster, project, and stated ambitions suggesting they should be.
The Rockets lost to Dallas 110-104 in a game marked by offensive struggles. Their 38.7% field goal percentage was their second-worst of the season. While their overall season percentages aren’t poor, they are heavily reliant on offensive rebounding and second-chance points near the basket. In this game, they were substantially outrebounded, winning 2-17 and going 0-15 against the Mavs in those statistics, respectively. Moreover, they rank fifth-lowest in assists and shoot the fewest three-pointers in the entire NBA. The prolonged absence of Fred VanVleet since the start of the season has severely impacted the fluidity and effectiveness of their offense.
