Sony Reverses PC Strategy: Major Single-Player Games to Remain PlayStation Exclusives

Sony Restricts Single-Player Games to PlayStation

Sony is scaling back its porting efforts and keeping upcoming narrative single-player titles exclusive to PlayStation hardware, fragster.de reported.

The hardware maker is reversing a multi-platform push that brought major franchises like God of War, Horizon, and Spider-Man to Steam over the past several years.

PlayStation Studios Shifts Porting Strategy

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reported in March 2026 that Sony plans to withhold major single-player PlayStation Studios titles from personal computers. Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, informed staff during a company town hall meeting in May that narrative single-player projects will remain tied to PlayStation hardware moving forward.

The revised approach impacts several prominent projects currently in development. Sony reportedly canceled a planned personal computer port for Ghost of Yōtei. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Wolverine and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet are positioned exclusively as PlayStation releases without personal computer versions scheduled.

Sony Updates Product Pages with PlayStation Exclusive Branding

Sony is updating official product pages to prominently display the “PlayStation Exclusive” badge. Titles such as Until Dawn 2 now feature this branding on PlayStation.com, echoing marketing strategies from the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 eras.

Multiplayer Titles Remain on Multiple Platforms

Sony is maintaining its multi-platform approach for online multiplayer and live-service projects. Games like Helldivers 2, Marathon, and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls continue to target multiple platforms to secure the large player counts required for online ecosystems.

External publishing deals handled outside internal studios also remain eligible for personal computer releases. The policy change focuses strictly on internally developed, narrative-driven single-player adventures.

Single-Player Games Face Changes to PC Porting Strategy

Which upcoming single-player games are affected by the policy change?

Ghost of Yōtei, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet are currently positioned as PlayStation exclusives, with Sony reportedly scrapping a planned personal computer port for Ghost of Yōtei.

Are all PlayStation games staying off personal computers?

No. Multiplayer titles, live-service games like Helldivers 2, and select external publishing partnerships will continue to launch on personal computers alongside consoles.

When did Sony decide to alter its porting strategy?

Bloomberg reported the shift in March 2026, followed by internal confirmation from PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst during a May town hall meeting.
