World of Warcraft Forever Launch Breaks Records

World of Warcraft: Forever has recorded one of the largest concurrent player counts in the game’s history, driven by a massive influx of new users, Kotaku reported.

World of Warcraft VP Holly Longdale stated that the studio is seeing the most new players for a launch in 15 years. Blizzard engineered the release on infrastructure running on more than 200 terabytes of RAM, according to IGN reporting, which prevented the day-one server congestion that typically plagues massive multiplayer rollouts.

JokerD Reaches Level 60 in Three Days

Daniel Gobey, known online as JokerD, led a group of Undead characters and one Troll to reach the maximum level 60 cap in just three days, according to IGN. Gobey previously secured the world-first level 60 milestone during the 2019 launch of World of Warcraft Classic, Kotaku reported.

The team used a strategic advantage by utilizing Undead characters, as Blizzard modified the Cannibalize ability to regenerate mana and eliminate downtime between enemy pulls, IGN noted. Upon reaching the milestone, a game master appeared to greet the party and set off virtual fireworks.

That was awesome, Gobey said, as reported by Kotaku. That was not something I was expecting.

Raid Schedules Leave Early Cap-Hitters Waiting

While the speedrunning team secured the top rank swiftly, the second-place player, Ksuper Worldfirst, trailed at level 53, IGN reported. Blizzard designed the mode for a more leisurely pace, with principal game designer Kris Zierhut advising players to level multiple characters, according to IGN.

Players hitting the level cap immediately face a content gap because the game’s initial raids—Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, and Onyxia’s Lair—will not open until December 9, IGN reported.
