Skellefteå Dominates HV71 in 8-3 Victory,HV71 Coach Expresses Frustration

Skellefteå defeated HV71 by a score of 8-3 in a game held at Skellefteå Kraft Arena on October 11,2024. The win further solidifies Skellefteå’s position while HV71 remains at the bottom of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) standings.

The first period ended in a 1-1 tie, with Riley Woods scoring for HV71 and Lars Bryggman responding for Skellefteå. HV71 coach Anton Blomqvist acknowledged his team’s strong start too the game but criticized the defensive lapse leading to Skellefteå’s goal, stating in an interview with TV4 Play that, “First 15 is worthy of our part. Their goal comes after a very learning home on our part. It’s a nice goal, but we have to do better.”

The second period saw a meaningful shift in momentum, with HV71 scoring four goals.Oscar Lindberg netted two, bringing the score to 5-2. Skellefteå captain Jonathan Pudas earned an assist on Lindberg’s second goal, marking his 300th point in the SHL – a milestone achieved by only five players previously.

Riley Woods managed to reduce the deficit before Mikkel Aagaard extended Skellefteå’s lead to 6-3.

The game concluded with further goals from Skellefteå, including a hattrick completed by Oscar Lindberg and two goals from Oliver Okuliar.

Expert analysis from TV4’s Petter Rönnqvist focused on HV71’s goaltending. Rönnqvist was highly critical of Lassi Lehtinen’s performance, stating he “continues to play as in the qualification for Modo… He looks lethargic, he doesn’t look like to go towards the puck.” Rönnqvist suggested bringing in Hugo Alnefeldt, currently without a contract, to provide a spark in net, saying, “Let him drive for a week, it goes fast. Release the prestige.”

Following the defeat, HV71 coach Anton Blomqvist expressed his disappointment. “Damn disappointment. We can’t keep it up all the way. We sit down in stupid situations. Not good enough. It must not look like it does tonight,” he said. He further described his frustration as “horrible right through” and “arduous to describe.”
