(Hwasun = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak -soo = Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, is actively pursuing the ‘Rural Basic Income Pilot Project’ to revitalize its rural areas facing population decline and an aging demographic.

On October 2nd, Hwasun-gun hosted a ‘Rural Basic Income Demonstration Program Hwasun Resolution Contest’ (photo) in the county conference room, demonstrating a unified commitment to securing the pilot project.

The government’s ‘Rural Basic Income Demonstration Project’ is a groundbreaking initiative. It will select six regions from the 69 nationwide experiencing population reduction and provide 150,000 won per month to all residents for two years, starting in 2026.

Hwasun-gun believes attracting this project will boost the local economy and enhance the quality of life for its residents.

The resolution event saw participation from 10 county lawmakers, including Hwasun-gun Representative Koo Bok-gyu and Chairman Oh Hyung-yeol, who displayed picket signs to show thier support.

Moreover, over 20 members of the Hwasun-gun Rural Leadership Association and 250 county office employees participated, holding mini banners to express their strong desire for the project’s approval.
