Hyundai Mobis Expands AI and Robotics Across Manufacturing Lines

Hyundai Mobis is expanding the use of artificial intelligence and robotics across its manufacturing and office operations to maximize production efficiency, according to a report by chosun.com. The company showcased roughly 40 innovative smart manufacturing technologies, including AI-driven automation systems, during an exhibition held in August at the Quantum Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.

Autonomous Transport and Virtual Robot Training in Uiwang

The company is currently testing a 3D vision system-based transport robot at its Ulsan chassis module plant, chosun.com reported. The robot independently identifies components required for assembly, determines the optimal travel path, and autonomously carries parts weighing up to 20 kilograms to the assembly line. This system reduces safety risks for workers while improving supply accuracy.

Hyundai Mobis also introduced a physical AI-based robot teaching solution that builds a virtual environment identical to an actual airbag production line. This allows robots to learn assembly tasks in a simulated setting, reducing the time required to adapt to new equipment or product specifications to between two and four hours. Additionally, AI technology now guides the connection of battery module temperature sensors, handling micro-components without positional errors.

Global Partnerships and Innovation Strategy

To secure future manufacturing competitiveness, Hyundai Mobis is building partnerships within the global technology ecosystem. The company expanded its outreach this year by hosting its first “Mobis Mobility Day” in Shanghai, China, following previous events in Silicon Valley, to discover and invest in robotics and semiconductor startups. These efforts build upon internal initiatives such as the “DT Tech Day” held last April, where staff shared examples of using generative AI to improve everyday office workflows.
