Ice Cube’s ‘War of the Worlds’ Dominates 2026 Razzies
Ice Cube’s remake of “War of the Worlds” was the big “winner” at the 2026 Golden Raspberry Awards, taking home five awards, including Worst Picture. The annual ceremony, held the day before the Academy Awards, celebrates the worst in cinematic offerings.
A Sweep of Negative Accolades
The sci-fi disaster film, released straight to streaming, secured wins for Worst Actor (Ice Cube), Worst Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel, Worst Director (Rich Lee), and Worst Screenplay. The Razzies specifically criticized the screenplay for “adapting (or destroying) the classic novel by H.G. Wells.”
Close Call for Worst Screen Combo
“War of the Worlds” nearly swept the awards, but was narrowly defeated in the Worst Screen Combo category. “Ice Cube & His Zoom Camera” lost out to “All Seven Dwarfs” from the recent live-action remake of “Snow White.” “Snow White” similarly received the Worst Supporting Actor Razzie, awarded to “all seven artificial dwarfs.”
Other Razzie Recipients
Rebel Wilson was named Worst Actress for “Bride Hard,” while Scarlet Rose Stallone took home the Worst Supporting Actress award for “Gunslingers.”
A Silver Lining: The Razzie Redeemer Award
The Razzie Redeemer Award, recognizing former Razzie honorees who have received Oscar nominations, was presented to Kate Hudson. Hudson previously won Worst Actress in 2021 for “Music,” but is nominated for Best Actress at the 2026 Academy Awards for her performance in “Song Sung Blue.”
Critical Reception
“War of the Worlds” initially received a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release in the summer of 2025. Rolling Stone’s review described the film as “a such a wreck that I personally would deny it entry forever,” adding, “It’s not even amusingly bad.”
