Denmark Seeks Handball History at 2025 World Championship
Denmark, the reigning Olympic and world champions, are aiming to make history by capturing an unprecedented fourth consecutive handball gold medal at the 2025 IHF Men’s Handball World Championship. The tournament, taking place from January 14th to February 2nd, will be co-hosted by Denmark, Croatia, and Norway, marking the first time the men’s World Championship will be held across three nations.
Tournament Format & Groups
The 32 participating teams are divided into eight preliminary round groups. The top three teams from each group advance to the main round, while the remaining eight teams compete for the President’s Cup. Results from the preliminary round against qualified teams carry over to the main round, which consists of four pools of six teams.
The top two teams from each pool in the main round progress to the knockout phase, starting with the quarter-finals. The thrilling climax of the tournament will see the bronze medal and championship games held at Bærum’s Unity Arena near Oslo.

- Group C: France, Austria, Qatar, Kuwait
- Group D: Hungary, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Guinea

- Group F: Sweden, Spain, Japan, Chile
- Group G: Slovenia, Iceland, Cuba, Cabo Verde
- Group H: Egypt, Croatia, Argentina, Bahrain
