According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Manocha was involved in an “altercation” with several individuals at approximately 11:10 p.m. PT. He sustained serious injuries and later died despite life-saving efforts . The North District Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, involving numerous individuals, and has stated that no further information will be released at this time .
Who Was Gurkirat Singh Manocha?
Manocha was a resident of Ujjain, in central India, and had moved to Fort St. John to pursue a degree in business management at Northern Lights College . He had been in Canada for approximately 15 months, seeking educational and employment opportunities . Manocha was also employed part-time at a local Walmart .
Prior to his studies in Canada, Manocha attended Carmel Convent School in Ujjain and later graduated from Vikram University .
Reactions and Condolences
Northern Lights College expressed awareness of the “tragic incident” and extended condolences to Manocha’s family . The Akshat International School in Ujjain, where Manocha was a former student, also conveyed its sympathies, stating, “In this demanding time, we stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and extend our heartfelt condolences” .
Mohan Yadav, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, spoke with Manocha’s family and assured them that the Indian government would assist in repatriating his remains for the last rites .
Investigation and Repatriation
