Indonesia Unveils Plans to Strengthen National Defense System
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense is taking significant steps to enhance the country’s defense capabilities. During a leadership meeting on Thursday, key discussions centered around strengthening the nation’s main defense system – a top priority for the ministry.
“The main defense system is one of our top priorities,” said Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, the ministry’s Head of Defense Information Bureau.
Enhancing Military Prowess
Bolstering Indonesia’s main defense systems is crucial for improving military capabilities, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to achieve an ideal military posture for safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
Inkiriwang emphasized the need for weapon systems to be tailored to the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), meeting specific criteria such as combat durability, functionality, ease of maintenance, and clear operational procedures.
The meeting also covered the specific types of weapons required by the army for effective military operations and the enhancement of sea defense capabilities.
Maritime and Air Defense
“As an archipelagic nation, we want to enhance our naval forces. This includes upgrading our warships, frigates, submarines, and surveillance capabilities, as well as our missile and ammunition systems,” explained Inkiriwang.
In terms of air defense, the ministry plans to strengthen the air force’s arsenal by acquiring more fighter jets and transport aircraft.
Cybersecurity Focus
In addition to traditional military enhancements, the meeting also addressed the critical issue of cybersecurity.
Inkiriwang expressed confidence that strengthening the main defense system will enable Indonesia to effectively counter potential attacks. “If our defensive posture is weak, it will be challenging for us to protect the nation’s sovereignty and security,” he stressed.
