you probably don’t upgrade your iPhone every year or even every other year. But when you’re moving from a four-year-old device to the latest and greatest, its natural to expect some big improvements in certain departments.
I recently upgraded from an iPhone 13 Pro to a 17 Pro, and one area I was hoping for some positive changes was the camera system. So I whent out and compared the two, and now it’s time to play a quick game of spot the difference.

Apple typically unveils its new iPhones in September. Expect the iPhone 17 Pro Max to follow this pattern, likely launching in September 2025. Pricing is expected to remain in line with previous Pro Max models, potentially starting around $1,199.
Conclusion:
the iPhone 17 Pro Max is shaping up to be a compelling upgrade, particularly for users prioritizing camera performance and a large display. While major design overhauls may be limited, the combination of a powerful new chip, advanced camera system, and innovative software features will likely make it a top contender in the premium smartphone market. As with all rumors, take these predictions with a grain of salt until Apple officially unveils its next-generation iPhones.

Quad Lock MAG review: The Best iPhone Mounts Just Got Easier
For years, Quad Lock has been a go-to for rugged iPhone mounting solutions. Their system, relying on a case and a magnetic/mechanical lock, has been popular with cyclists, motorcyclists, and anyone needing a secure phone hold. Now, they’ve launched the MAG series, simplifying the mounting process with a stronger magnetic connection. We’ve been testing the new system, and here’s our take.
What’s New with MAG?
The core difference lies in the magnetic technology. While previous Quad lock cases used a two-stage mechanical lock, the MAG cases utilize a powerful array of magnets. This allows for a simpler, one-handed attachment and detachment from mounts. The magnets are strong – surprisingly so. We tested it on bumpy roads and during moderate activity, and the phone stayed firmly in place.
the MAG system isn’t just about the case. Quad Lock has also released new MAG-compatible mounts,including global options for cars,desks,and motorcycles. They’re also backwards compatible with existing Quad Lock mounts, meaning you can mix and match.
The MAG Case: A Sleek and Protective Design
We tested the MAG case for the iPhone 13 Pro (cases are available for a wide range of iPhones). The case itself feels well-built, offering good protection without being overly bulky. It’s a single-piece design, made from a polycarbonate shell with a soft-touch TPU liner. The button covers are responsive, and the case doesn’t interfere with wireless charging.
The magnetic array is embedded within the case, and it’s surprisingly discreet. It doesn’t add significant weight or thickness. The case also includes a protective camera bump.
Mounting and Demounting: Effortless and Secure
Attaching your phone to a MAG mount is incredibly easy. Simply bring the phone near the mount, and the magnets snap it into place. It’s satisfyingly secure, and you can confidently use your phone one-handed while mounted.
Detaching is just as simple – a gentle pull and the phone comes free. We found this to be a significant betterment over the previous mechanical lock, which sometimes required a bit of fiddling.
The Ecosystem: Versatility is Key
Quad Lock’s strength lies in its ecosystem. the MAG series expands this, offering a wider range of mounting options. We tested the car vent mount and the wireless charging head mount.
* Car Vent Mount: This mount securely attaches to your car’s air vents and provides a stable platform for your phone.It allows for easy viewing and access while driving (though always prioritize safe driving!).
* Wireless Charging Head mount: This mount is ideal for cyclists and motorcyclists. It attaches to your handlebars and allows you to wirelessly charge your phone while navigating or listening to music.
Is the Quad lock MAG Worth It?
If you’re already invested in the Quad Lock ecosystem, the MAG series is a no-brainer upgrade. The simplified mounting process and stronger magnetic connection are significant improvements.
Even if you’re new to Quad lock, the MAG system is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a secure and versatile iPhone mounting solution.It’s more expensive than some other options, but the build quality, security, and ecosystem support justify the price.
pros:
* Strong magnetic connection
* Easy one-handed mounting and demounting
* Protective case design
* versatile ecosystem of mounts
* Backwards compatible with existing Quad Lock mounts
Cons:
* Relatively expensive
* Magnetic connection might not be suitable for extreme activities (though Quad Lock offers mechanical lock options for those)

Ultrawide Lens Comparison
The iPhone 17 Pro shows a significant improvement over the 13 Pro when it comes to ultrawide performance. There’s just so much more detail in the iPhone 17 Pro images, as you can see on the motorbike seat in the image below:
This also translates to more natural-looking photos, where objects within the image look closer to their real-life counterparts consequently of the higher resolution sensor. The bark on the tree here has a very processed look on the iPhone 13 Pro, whereas the iPhone 17 Pro photo looks far more natural:
Once again, light leak has proven to be an issue for the iPhone 13 Pro. This might be one of the biggest improvements that Apple has made to the iPhone camera, resulting in less washed-out-looking photos:
Telephoto Lens Comparison
Though some images look strikingly similar, the iPhone 13 Pro’s achilles heel has always been its telephoto (3x) lens. It’s hard to perfectly compare these, since the newer model has a 4x and 8x option, but I tried my best:
When you look a little closer, it’s clear that the 17 pro captures more detail and has less of an “interpolated” look.Just look at the chimneys and roof in the image below:
