France has firmly stated that any consideration of easing international sanctions against Iran is directly contingent upon the release of two French citizens currently detained in Tehran. This assertive position, articulated by French Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Thursday, underscores the escalating tensions between Paris and Tehran [[1]]. the detained individuals, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, have been held for three years, and their fate is now inextricably linked to the broader negotiations surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Grave Accusations and Diplomatic Impasse
Kohler and Paris were initially arrested in May 2022 and now face extremely serious charges, including alleged espionage on behalf of Israel’s mossad intelligence agency, plotting to destabilize the Iranian government, and charges of corruption.
