Report of Iranian Aircraft Near Al Udeid Air Base and US Military Operations in the Middle East
Recent reports indicate a potentially escalatory incident involving Iranian tactical bombers operating near the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Simultaneously, the United States has been engaged in extensive military operations in the region, dubbed “Epic Fury,” following the launch of operations on Saturday.
Close Encounter at Al Udeid Air Base
According to sources, two Iranian Su-24 tactical bombers reportedly approached the Al Udeid Air Base on Monday. One source claims the aircraft were within “two minutes” of their targets, although another states they were visually identified and photographed carrying bombs and precision-guided munitions. Qatar reportedly issued warnings to the Iranian planes via radio, but received no response. It is alleged the Iranian aircraft flew at a exceptionally low altitude – approximately 20 meters – potentially to evade radar detection.
Reports suggest a Qatari F-15 fighter jet intercepted the Iranian aircraft, resulting in their downing. Sources claim the planes crashed into the sea. The Su-24, originally developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s, remains in service with the Iranian air force.
US Military Operations: “Epic Fury”
The US military has initiated a large-scale operation, “Epic Fury,” involving a wide range of bombers, attack planes, and fighter jets targeting locations in Iran. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth initially described the operation as “the deadliest and most complex air operation in history.” US Central Command has characterized the operation as “the largest regional concentration of US military firepower in a generation.”
The US has deployed its strategic bomber fleet, including the B-2 Spirit, B-1 Lancer, and B-52 Stratofortress, alongside combat aircraft such as the F-35, F-18, F-16, and A-10. The B-2 Spirit bombers reportedly flew long-duration missions from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, mirroring similar deployments during “Operation Midnight Hammer” last summer.
Aircraft Losses and Kuwaiti Involvement
The US has confirmed the loss of at least three aircraft during “Operation Epic Fury.” On Monday, three F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets crashed in Kuwait. Video footage circulating on social media showed one of the jets entering a spin before impact. All six crew members ejected safely and were rescued, with Kuwait providing support.
Reports indicate a Kuwaiti F-18 fighter jet may have been responsible for downing the US aircraft, though the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
