Isabeau Levito Channels Sophia Loren in Olympic Debut, Eyes Medal Contention
Milan, Italy – Isabeau Levito captivated audiences at the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, with a stunning short program inspired by Italian cinema icon Sophia Loren. The 18-year-old American skater delivered a confident performance, earning a score of 70.84 and securing eighth place heading into the free skate.
A Diva on Ice
Levito’s program, set to “Almost in Your Arms” by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston and “zou bisou bisou” by Bill Shepherd and Alan Tew, was a clear homage to Loren. She skated in a striking red dress and diamond-like necklace, embodying the glamour and confidence of the Italian star.
“I loved every minute of the short program,” Levito told Olympics.com. “It makes me experience so good because I get to embody this diva and I can feel it travel into my personality and give me confidence. And I just had a great time.”
Technical Precision and Artistic Impression
Despite a minor under-rotation on a triple loop, Levito’s performance was largely clean. She successfully landed a triple flip-triple toe loop combination and a double Axel, and received top levels on all her spins.
“I feel like being out there gave me a burst of energy,” Levito said. “It wasn’t as difficult to get to complete the program as it tends to be in competition, which is very surprising, and I feel really great. I don’t feel like I have any pressure. I don’t feel nervous here. I’m just happy to be here.”
Family Support and Olympic Debut
This short program marked Levito’s first competitive appearance on Olympic ice. The occasion was made even more special by the presence of her mother and aunt, who were in the audience, with the rest of her family watching from home in the Milan area, reflecting her Italian heritage.
“I haven’t gotten them on my phone yet, but I know that they must have loved that and must be happy for me,” Levito shared. “I feel very happy that my Olympic debut went like that and with this program.”
Competition Among the “Blade Angels”
Levito is one of three American women, dubbed the “Blade Angels,” competing in the women’s singles event. Alysa Liu currently holds a strong position in third place, while Amber Glenn faced challenges in her short program. Yahoo Sports reports that Liu led the American trio with a score of 76.59.
Looking Ahead to the Free Skate
Levito will advance to the free skate on Thursday, where she will have the opportunity to contend for a medal. The pressure is on the young American skater to deliver another strong performance and potentially reignite interest in women’s figure skating in the United States.
