Higgins Calls for Israel and Arms Suppliers to be Excluded from UN
President Michael D Higgins has suggested that Israel and the countries that provide it with weapons should be excluded from the United nations.
He called an autonomous UN commission report – which concluded that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians – a “very, very crucial document.”
mr. Higgins said, “I believe that the actions needed now are to exclude those who are practicing genocide, and those who are supporting genocide with weapons.”
“We must consider excluding them from the United Nations itself, and we shouldn’t hesitate to stop trading with people who are inflicting this on our fellow human beings,” he added.
President Higgins stated that some of the EU’s strongest members are “choosing to stay silent while watching emaciated children suffer a man-made, truly awful situation” in Gaza.
He believes the “EU will find it very difficult to remain a union” if these members continue to stay silent.
Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships, President Higgins said, “I think it’s a very, very critically important document, and the chair of that working group also chaired the working group on Rwanda. It clearly states that four of the main actions described in the 1948 convention on genocide are being met.”

“It goes further and suggests that encouraging genocide has been happening, and specifically mentions people in high office who use language to encourage and incite genocide,” he said.
President Higgins said that half of those killed “yesterday and today” were women and children.
Israeli president Isaac Herzog, who was named in the report, rejected its findings, saying they misinterpreted his words.
Israel has repeatedly
