Expanded Flight Options: Air Canada and Ita Airways Deepen Partnership
A new comprehensive agreement between Air Canada and Ita Airways promises travelers substantially expanded travel options between Canada,Italy, and a growing network of international destinations. Announced today, July 14th, the collaboration will initially offer over 30 seamless itineraries with convenient single-stop connections.
code-Sharing for Enhanced connectivity
The core of the agreement involves a reciprocal code-sharing arrangement. both airlines will apply their flight codes to ten new routes operating from their key hubs – Rome fiumicino (ITA Airways) and Toronto Pearson (Air Canada). This allows passengers to book connecting flights on a single ticket, streamlining travel and baggage handling.
Specifically, Air Canada customers will gain access to Ita Airways’ services from Rome Fiumicino, encompassing five prominent Italian cities: Lamezia Terme, Palermo, Catania, Florence, and Bari. The expanded network also includes African destinations like Cairo, Tunis, and Algiers (subject to necessary governmental approvals), alongside service to Tirana and Tel Aviv (with Tel Aviv service currently paused).
North American Expansion for Ita Airways
Conversely,Ita Airways will extend its reach across North America by adding its code to select Air Canada flights originating from Toronto Pearson. This will provide access to six Canadian cities – Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and St. John’s – as well as four key US hubs: Boston, Orlando, dallas, and Fort Lauderdale.
Loyalty Program Integration and Future Alliance
Tickets for these expanded routes are available for purchase immediately, with travel commencing on July 21st. Beyond the immediate route expansion, both airlines are actively working to integrate their frequent flyer programs, enabling passengers to earn and redeem points across both networks. Moreover, Ita Airways is on track to join the Star Alliance network in the early months of 2026, promising even greater connectivity and benefits for travelers. This move is expected to further solidify its position within the global aviation landscape.
