Ivor Fitzpatrick Estate: High Court Adjourns Probate Application
Dublin, Ireland – Proceedings concerning the estate of the late Ivor Fitzpatrick, a prominent Dublin solicitor and property developer, have been temporarily paused by the High Court. The application for probate was adjourned for one week on Monday, February 23, 2026, as reported by the Irish Times.
Background on Ivor Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick, who passed away on March 24, 2024, at the age of 68, was estimated to be worth approximately €100 million at the time of his death. He founded the law firm Ivor Fitzpatrick & Co and was a significant figure in Dublin’s property development sector. Beyond his professional life, Fitzpatrick was known for his ownership of a 19th-century castle in County Wicklow and a stake in the yacht Christina O, formerly owned by Aristotle Onassis.
He was a long-time supporter and friend of the late Taoiseach Charles Haughey, whom he represented during tribunal investigations. His firm also represented those affected by the hepatitis C blood contamination scandal, including the late Brigid McCole.
The Current Legal Proceedings
The legal proceedings involve an application from BCM Global Ltd, a financial fund, seeking a limited grant. This would allow an administrator to act on its behalf if necessary. Karl Dowling, barrister for BCM Global Ltd, stated that a decision is required within four weeks due to statutory time limits.
Stephen Spierin, representing Fitzpatrick’s wife Susan, requested a three-week adjournment. He anticipates that a full grant of probate will be issued before the statutory deadline, potentially making the limited grant unnecessary. Spierin indicated that paperwork for the full grant has already been submitted to the probate office.
Court Decision and Next Steps
Judge Carmel Stewart acknowledged the extensive communication between the parties and expressed confidence in the applicant’s diligence. She adjourned the application for one week to allow Susan Fitzpatrick to provide valuations to BCM Global Ltd. The judge noted that if a full grant of probate is not issued within three weeks, she would consent to the fund’s application for a limited grant.
The estate is described as complex, involving various business interests that have been valued, and the relevant documentation has been submitted.
