San Diego State Aztecs Secure Commitment from Texas Quarterback Jack Devine

San Diego State University (SDSU) has received a commitment from Jack Devine, a highly touted dual-threat quarterback from Regents High School in Austin, Texas. The commitment, announced Friday, February 20, 2026, adds a promising talent to the Aztecs’ Class of 2027 recruiting class.

Devine’s Impressive High School Performance

Devine concluded his recent season with exceptional statistics, passing for 3,492 yards with 55 touchdowns and only three interceptions, according to MaxPreps.com. He as well demonstrated his versatility as a runner, accumulating 725 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. His performance led Regents High School to a 12-1 record. Remarkably, Devine did not throw an interception until his team’s 12th game of the season.

Why SDSU?

Devine expressed his enthusiasm for SDSU, citing the coaching staff and the program’s track record of developing quarterbacks. “I chose SDSU because of the coaches and the fact that they produce great quarterbacks and great men,” Devine stated. He specifically praised head coach Sean Lewis and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Matt Johnson, describing them as “great coaches and great leaders who have built an elite offense.” Devine also highlighted the program’s emphasis on “toughness and persistence,” qualities he is eager to embrace.

SDSU Quarterback Outlook

The Aztecs currently have five quarterbacks on their roster. However, starters Jayden Denegal and Bert Emanuel Jr. Will complete their eligibility at the end of the 2026 season. Redshirt freshmen Stone Saunders and Draiden Trudeau, along with true freshman Brady Campbell, are also in the quarterback room. Devine’s commitment provides a key addition as the team looks to the future.

Recent SDSU Commitments

Devine is SDSU’s third commitment from the Class of 2027. The Aztecs previously received commitments from Arizona cornerback Nasim Eason from Gilbert’s Higley High School and wide receiver Braxton Huynh from Peoria’s Liberty High School.

Accelerated Recruiting Cycle

The recruiting landscape has turn into increasingly fast-paced in recent years. Last year, SDSU had secured commitments from a significant portion of its 2026 class by the summer. Official commitments cannot be finalized until the NCAA’s early signing period in December.
