Jakarta Intensifies Oversight of Entertainment Venues During Ramadan and Idulfitri

The Jakarta Provincial Government, through its Satpol PP (Public Order Agency), is implementing a 33-day operation to closely monitor entertainment and recreational businesses throughout the Ramadan and Idulfitri festivities. The initiative, coordinated with an integrated task force, began on February 18, 2026, and will continue through March 22, 2026.

Standard Operating Procedure and Legal Framework

This annual oversight of the hospitality and entertainment sector is a standard operating procedure, according to Jakarta Satpol PP Deputy Head, Rizki Adhari Jusal. The operation is underpinned by Jakarta Bylaw No. 6/2015 on Tourism and Gubernatorial Regulation No. 18/2018. Operational guidelines are further detailed in a Circular Letter issued by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency on February 13, 2026, outlining restrictions for tourism businesses during this period.

Key Dates for Mandatory Closures

Businesses are mandated to close on the following dates: the eve of Ramadan, the eve of Idulfitri (Takbiran), the first and second days of Idulfitri, the day following Idulfitri, and the 17th of Ramadan for Nuzulul Qur’an. This applies to nightclubs, discos, steam baths, massage parlors, and adult arcades – both manual and electronic – as well as bars, including those within larger entertainment complexes. Any ancillary services operating within the same premises are also required to cease operations.

Enforcement and Coordination

Satpol PP will deploy 80 personnel daily, divided into teams targeting the five administrative regions of Jakarta. Patrols will be intensified during the evening hours, leading up to the pre-dawn meal (sahur). Businesses found in violation of the regulations will face criminal or administrative sanctions under Bylaw No. 6/2015.

Effective coordination is crucial, involving the Metro Police, the Military Garrison (Kogartap 1), the Tourism Agency, and the National Unity and Politics Office (Kesbangpol) to ensure synchronized monitoring data. Any significant developments must be reported immediately through the established chain of command.

Broader Security Measures

Beyond entertainment venues, the Jakarta Satpol PP is also deploying 1,900 personnel daily throughout Ramadan to maintain overall security. A key focus will be on monitoring 43 locations identified as potential hotspots for unrest and ensuring the orderly arrangement of vendors selling pre-dawn meals (takjil).

“May this year’s Ramadan allow everyone to worship with peace of mind and solemnity,” stated Rizki Adhari Jusal.
