Behind the Glitter: Emotions Run High as Dancing with the Stars Nears Semi-Finals

As Dancing with the Stars heads into its semi-final weekend, emotions are reaching a fever pitch both on and off the dance floor. James Patrice, the demonstrate’s digital presenter, has offered a glimpse into the raw and poignant moments experienced by contestants and professional dancers alike.

A Window into Raw Emotion

Patrice, who has been involved with the show for fourteen series, provides fans with behind-the-scenes updates via Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. However, it’s the moments captured after the cameras stop rolling that truly resonate, revealing the genuine emotional toll the competition takes on its participants.

“It’s very emotional, particularly on the floor after they’ve been eliminated,” Patrice shared with RTÉ Entertainment. “The second the credits roll, the social team and I proceed in for interviews… It is that pure, raw emotion. It is that kind of initial shock and everyone is around them… But by the time we get to them, it’s very much ‘okay, calm down, that’s it, you’re not in the competition anymore.'”

More Than Just a Few Weeks on Screen

Patrice emphasized that the contestants’ journey extends far beyond the five or six weeks viewers see on television. The two months of rehearsals and preparation, coupled with the bonds formed with fellow castmates and professional partners, create a deeply impactful experience. This extended commitment makes elimination particularly tough.

Recently, Olympic rower Philip Doyle and his partner Daniela Roze were eliminated after facing singer-songwriter Tolü Makay in a dance-off during Orchestra Night on RTÉ One .

The Impact on Professional Dancers

The emotional weight isn’t solely borne by the celebrities. Patrice noted the disappointment experienced by the professional dancers, such as Daniela Roze, who had invested significant effort and believed a win was within reach. “It’s heartbreaking, it really is,” he said. “They are so immersed in it… They eat, sleep and breathe it.”

Anticipating Heightened Emotions

With only two weeks remaining in the competition, Patrice anticipates emotions will intensify as the pressure mounts. “Obviously I don’t want to make people cry, but I do love a few tears as it just shows how real it is and how human it is,” he remarked. “We’ve two weeks left – I want to see tears on the dance floor. Better yet, I’ll just cry.”

Dancing with the Stars airs on Sundays at 6:30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
