Sinner Cruises into Quarterfinal Berth
Jannik Sinner is moving on. The world number one punched his ticket to the Wimbledon quarterfinals, dismantling Shintaro Mochizuki in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3. It was a clinical performance that kept his hunt for a title alive.

The Italian needed less than two and a half hours to dispatch the Japanese qualifier. While Mochizuki attempted to disrupt the rhythm with a persistent serve-and-volley attack, Sinner relied on a high volume of aces to stifle the pressure.
“Che giocatore incredibile, non lo conoscevo e mi sono dovuto adattare,” Sinner said of the challenge posed by his unfamiliar opponent.
A Familiar Rivalry Awaits
Sinner’s path now leads to a clash with Jan-Lennard Struff. The 36-year-old advanced after Hubert Hurkacz was forced to retire in the fifth set of their match. Sinner enters the contest with a 3-0 head-to-head advantage, with all three of those meetings occurring during 2024.
Djokovic Rewrites the History Books
Novak Djokovic reached his 17th career Wimbledon quarterfinal—his ninth in a row—by outlasting Roman Safiullin 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The victory serves as a milestone: it is the Serbian’s 106th singles win at the Championships, moving him past Roger Federer for the most victories in the history of the men’s tournament. Only Martina Navratilova remains ahead, with 120 wins.
The 28-year-old Russian pushed the seven-time champion for three and a half hours. “Roman ha iniziato molto bene ed è stato molto aggressivo,” Djokovic said, admitting he struggled to find his baseline comfort. With 66 Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances to his name, Djokovic is now waiting on the winner between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Asked about a potential 25th Grand Slam title, he remained stoic: “Non è nella mia lista di priorità al momento. Ci penso poco, sono concentrato sul torneo e sul prossimo incontro.”
Osaka Stuns Top Seed
The women’s draw saw a major shakeup as Naomi Osaka eliminated Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(2). It was a rare defeat for the Belarusian, marking the first time in 122 matches she has exited in two sets. “Non ho giocato al mio meglio, mentre lei probabilmente ha giocato al massimo livello,” Sabalenka noted afterward. The victory secures Osaka her first-ever Wimbledon quarterfinal appearance.
