Former Presidents Honor Rev. Jesse Jackson at Chicago Memorial Service

Chicago, IL – A “Celebration of Hope” was held Friday in Chicago to honor the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., who died on February 17th at the age of 86. The service drew a remarkable gathering of political figures, including three former U.S. Presidents and the former Vice President.

Presidential Tributes

Former Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden delivered remarks at the public homegoing service held at the House of Hope event center. The three former presidents were met with cheers as they arrived, demonstrating the widespread respect for Jackson’s decades of civil rights work and political activism.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and former First Lady Jill Biden likewise attended the service, underscoring the broad impact of Jackson’s career.

A Legacy of Activism

Reverend Jackson was a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement, marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He founded the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and was a two-time Democratic presidential candidate. The Jackson family emphasized his commitment to fighting for economic and gender equity, better healthcare, education, and peace.

Thousands of people paid their respects as Jackson lay in honor at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters last week.

Continued Remembrance

Following the public service, a private service was held Saturday morning in Chicago. The Jackson family welcomed the participation of the former presidents, recognizing the significance of their presence in honoring his life’s work.

Barack Obama received a particularly warm welcome from the large crowd gathered for the memorial service.
