JKT48’s Freya Reports AI-Generated Exploitative Images to Police
Raden Roro Freyanashifa Jayawardana, better known as Freya, captain of the Indonesian idol group JKT48, has filed a police report concerning the manipulation of her image using artificial intelligence (AI) to create inappropriate content. The report was initially filed on February 5, 2026, with the South Jakarta Metro Police.
Report Details and Legal Basis
The case centers around digitally altered images circulating online that feature Freya’s likeness in a compromising manner. According to authorities, the manipulated content originated from accounts with the usernames @grok and @swap. The investigation focuses on data manipulation as defined in Article 35 in conjunction with Article 51 of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to the ITE Law (Electronic Information and Transactions Law) in Indonesia.
Freya submitted evidence to investigators, including screenshots of the edited images and documentation of the accounts responsible for spreading the content.
Timeline of Events
The misuse of Freya’s image began surfacing in 2022, with the activity escalating into early 2025 and continuing into 2026. Initially, the JKT48 Operation Team attempted to address the issue by issuing warnings to the accounts sharing the manipulated content, but these efforts were unsuccessful. This prompted Freya to pursue legal action.
Freya underwent a clarification examination with investigators on March 12, 2026.
Legal Considerations
Authorities are pursuing the case under the updated ITE Law, which addresses the misuse of AI technology. The potential penalties for those found guilty of manipulating data electronically to harm another’s reputation could result in a maximum prison sentence of 12 years. Freya’s legal team opted to utilize Article 35 of the ITE Law rather than pursuing charges related to pornography, focusing instead on the unlawful manipulation of her data.
The JKT48 Operation Team has pledged to support Freya throughout the legal process to safeguard the integrity and safety of all its members.
