Swedish Cup Referees Spotlight: Maxon Webb and Melker Söderström

The Swedish Cup will be played in Nyköping November 7-9. The Swedish Cup provides not only player training, but also valuable experience for our young, promising referees from all five districts. Leading up to the Swedish Cup,we will continuously present both participating teams and nominated referees on our channels.

How long have you been a referee?
Maxon: 4 years and Melker: 5 years

What motivated you to become a referee?

Maxon: I had stopped playing handball but missed the sport. When I learned about referee training, I was immediatly interested.

Melker: I was injured after a traffic accident and had refereed previously. When my time with my old team ended, I focused on refereeing.

How did you feel when you were nominated for the Swedish Cup?

Maxon and Melker: We were thrilled to learn of our nomination for the Swedish Cup. It felt rewarding to see that our hard work was paying off, and we are eager for the opportunity to further develop as a team.

What are you most looking forward to refereeing at the Swedish Cup?

Maxon and Melker: We are looking forward to refereeing high-quality handball and growing as a team.

Will you prepare in any particular way?

Maxon and Melker: No, we have a routine that we trust.

What are your goals as referees?

Maxon and Melker: In the short term, we aim to advance in our careers within Swedish handball. Long term,we aspire to reach the international level and eventually become VAR officials on television.

What is the best part of being a referee?

Maxon and Melker: seeing handball from a unique viewpoint and being a part of this fantastic sport.
