The Voice Battles Heat Up: Steals, Standout Performances, and a Skittles Near Miss
Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice delivered intense Battles, featuring a standout performance that one coach called “the performance of the night” and another epic steal. The condensed one-hour episode, a break from the usual two-hour format, showcased four thrilling duels, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
The Coach Austyns Stancil Picked Is…
After Monday’s cliffhanger, viewers finally learned the fate of Austyns Stancil. Teaming up with Snoop Dogg, the R&B singer, who had originally been on Team Gwen but lost to Jose Luis in a fierce Battle, made his choice. Snoop, visibly thrilled, expressed his excitement, stating, “He adds a lot of flavor to Team Snoop and he has a hunger. Thinking that you’re gone and knowing you’re back, I need that in the room. I need a dog on my team.”
Standout Battle of the Episode
Snoop pitted two powerhouse vocalists against each other: Dreion and Georgia Starnes, both four-chair turns who commanded attention with their smooth, soulful voices. Dreion brought the classic R&B vibe while Starnes showcased a modern soulfulness. Their duet of “Perfect Combination” by Stacy Lattisaw and Johnny Gill was a captivating blend of old-school and contemporary sounds, leaving the coaches speechless.
“Their voices were so well matched,” Reba McEntire said, her praise echoing the sentiment of the entire panel. Gwen Stefani commended Starnes’s “cool, deep voice,” predicting a bright future for her regardless of the outcome. She described Dreion as “one of the greatest singers” she has ever heard. Despite Dreion’s undeniable talent, Stefani chose Starnes for her complete package.
Bublé agreed, describing Starnes’s tone as “rich” and Dreion’s voice as “smooth as silk.” Snoop, visibly struggling with his decision, joked about needing a commercial break to contemplate. Ultimately, he chose Starnes, stating, “Georgia is something far-fetched from the Snoop Dogg catalog but that’s what we like to do. We do what others don’t.”
A ‘Steal’ That Almost Didn’t Happen (Because of Skittles)
The Battle between Team Michael’s Sofronio Vasquez and Aliyah Khaylyn was declared “the performance of the night” by Reba McEntire. The two vocal powerhouses, both four-chair turns during the Blind Auditions, delivered a soulful rendition of Celine Dion’s “Power of Love.” Bublé chose Vasquez, leaving Khaylyn vulnerable to a steal. Snoop, in a moment of near-miss, nearly missed pressing his button because he was engrossed in a bag of Skittles.
“She’s on to the big leagues so she deserves a big-league coach,” Snoop declared, securing Khaylyn for his team.
A Look Ahead to Next Week
The Battles conclude next week, with a single episode to air due to the upcoming election. Stefani and Snoop have used both their steals, while McEntire and Bublé still have one remaining. The Knockouts are on the horizon, and the final Battles promise to be even more intense.
Don’t miss the final Battles of The Voice next week, November 4th at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
